The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has demanded an immediate withdrawal and public apology from the Multimedia Group over what it describes as a “fabricated and misleading publication” falsely attributed to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, 14th October 2025, and signed by Bagbara Tanko, Head of PR and Communications, the Ministry expressed serious concern over the circulation of a false quote on Adom TV, Adom Online, Asempa FM, and other affiliated social media platforms.
The quote in question, attributed to the Minister, “I will be involved in Black Stars World Cup call-ups, and selections will depend purely on merit and performance”, was never made during his engagement on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show or any related interview, the Ministry clarified.
“This is not an isolated occurrence. Over the past few months, the Ministry has observed with concern a pattern of consistent misquoting, twisting of context, and deliberate misinformation by Multimedia brands regarding the Minister’s engagements,” the statement said.
The Ministry noted that these repeated inaccuracies have “unfairly tainted public perception, stirred unnecessary controversy, and undermined the credibility of the Ministry.”
In response, the Ministry has issued a formal demand outlining three key actions to be taken by Multimedia immediately:
The unconditional withdrawal of all content containing the false quote across their websites, radio, television, and social media platforms.
A public apology published on all major Multimedia channels, including Adom Online, MyJoyOnline, Joy Sports, Asempa FM, and Hitz FM.
An internal review of editorial processes that led to the publication of the unverified quote.
While acknowledging the importance of a free and responsible media, the Ministry emphasized that such freedom must come with a duty to uphold truth, verify facts, and correct errors swiftly and publicly.
“We appreciate the role of the media in our democracy, but we expect your action by the close of business today, 14th October 2025.”
