Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, believes Mohammed Kudus’ dip in form has contributed to West Ham United‘s poor performances.
After an explosive season in his debut campaign with the Hammers last season, scoring 14 goals with seven assists and playing a key role in the Europa League, the Ghana attacker has struggled in the 2024/25 season.
Kudus has scored four goals in all competitions with three assists. However, Carragher reacting to the performance of West Ham said, Kudus’ dip in form this season has played a pivotal role in West Ham’s poor campaign in the Premier League, which is worrying.
“Well, I see there’s no doubt he’s a quality player who should be playing for a team closer to the top of the table, not near the bottom. But probably one of the reasons why West Ham are where they are this season is because he hasn’t shown the form that he showed last season,” he said on Sky Sports. “Last season, he looked fantastic; he just hasn’t looked the same player this season.” Carragher also said that he wouldn’t be surprised if Kudus is sold by the club at the end of the season to raise funds, as he is being chased by top European teams. “So, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a change there in some way, because, as you said, West Ham need the money. But other clubs might think this is an off-season for him.
“Last season was the real cue to say you can get that type of player; maybe it’s a good sign. So it might be the type of situation that maybe works for the two clubs,” he added. West Ham United will wrap up their campaign with an away game against relegated Ipswich Town on Sunday at the Portman Road.
