I wish to face Uruguay one more time – Asamoah Gyan

Ghana’s all-time leading top scorer, Asamoah Gyan, has expressed his desire to face Uruguay one more time.

Gyan’s unfinished business with Uruguay dates back to the 2010 World Cup quarter-final match, where he infamously missed a penalty that would have sent Ghana to the semi-finals.

“If I could play one more game, it would be against Uruguay,” Gyan said. “My most emotional moment on the pitch was when the final whistle went against Uruguay. Not when I missed the penalty, after the penalty shootout,” he added.

Gyan ended his international career in 2019 with 51 goals for Ghana. He called time on his illustrious career spanning two decades in 2023, winning numerous individual and team honors.

Despite having another chance to face Uruguay at the 2022 World Cup, Ghana lost 2-0. Gyan’s desire to face Uruguay again is a testament to the lasting impact of that 2010 match on his career.
