Captain Jordan Ayew dismisses reports of friction in Black Stars camp

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has refuted claims of divisions within the Ghana national team, insisting the squad remains united despite recent disappointments.

Speculation about infighting and fractured relationships has grown in the wake of Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

However, in an exclusive interview with Joy Sports, the Leicester City forward defended his teammates, likening their bond to that of a family.

Obviously, we are not all best friends because everyone has people they are closer to,” Ayew said. “But just like a family, the fact that you’re closer to your sister doesn’t mean you don’t love your brother. There’s no problem or friction within the team, and I’m yet to see any problem whatsoever. We’re like brothers.”

The Black Stars have faced increased scrutiny following their disappointing AFCON qualification campaign, with head coach Otto Addo admitting to challenges within the squad.

After presenting a 56-page technical report to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) last year, Addo pledged to enforce discipline, accountability, and a clearer playing philosophy to improve results.

Despite the setbacks, Ayew has remained a key figure for Ghana, scoring nine goals in 13 appearances for the national team in 2024.

He will be hoping to maintain his form when Ghana takes on Chad in a crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday.
