‘NDC government committed to creating national sports fund’ – Kofi Adams

Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has emphasized that the John Mahama-led NDC government is committed to creating a national sports fund to help address the funding challenges faced by some sports associations.

Many sports bodies in Ghana have struggled with financial constraints, affecting their ability to carry out key activities.

One of the teams facing financial difficulties is the women’s national football team, the Black Queens, who, like other underfunded national teams, have lacked resources for important assignments.

To address these challenges, Adams reiterated the importance of the proposed national sports fund.

“The NDC administration led by John Mahama is committed to establishing a national sports fund,” he told Joy Sports.

“Revenue from sports betting, the national lottery, corporate sponsorship and tourism levies will be channelled directly into sports development.

He also highlighted efforts to increase financial support for local leagues.

“In addition, we are working to expand broadcasting rights for local leagues, encouraging partnership with digital platforms to encourage monetising Ghanaian sports content.”
