Players need to step up to earn incentives if TV rights increase – Amankwah Mireku

Former Hearts of Oak captain Amankwah Mireku has emphasised that players in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) will need to improve their performance to justify increased incentives if TV rights revenue is increased.

Mireku expressed his support for Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak’s demand for a greater percentage of TV rights revenue in the GPL.

He believes that the two clubs deserve a bigger share of the TV deal due to their massive following, influence, and television appeal.

Mireku noted that if Kotoko and Hearts receive more TV rights revenue, it should reflect in player incentives and development.

However, he stressed that players must also step up and perform to justify these demands. “If Kotoko and Hearts get more from TV rights, that money should reflect in player incentives and development but the players also need to step up and perform to justify these demands.”

He added that if the league improves, more sponsors will come in, and that benefits everyone.

Mireku’s comments come after Ghana’s two biggest clubs jointly signed a document demanding reforms in the league, including an increase in their share of television broadcasting rights.
