Former Ghana international and U-20 World Cup winner Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has called on Sports and Recreation Minister-Designate Kofi Iddie Adams to make the revival and development of the Ghana Premier League a top priority when he assumes office.
Badu, who has been a vocal advocate for domestic football, believes Adams’ extensive experience in governance and youth development makes him well-equipped for the role.
“We wish him luck, and he is a tough guy. He has worked with former President Jerry John Rawlings. He was the youth organizer under his presidency and has also served as a minister, so he knows the ins and outs of all this. We wish him well,” Badu said as quoted by Citi Sports.
While Badu acknowledged the importance of investing in multiple sports disciplines, he emphasized that football, particularly the Ghana Premier League, requires urgent attention to regain its prominence.
“It’s football I will prioritize because I am a former footballer, but I want him to also focus on other sports.
In the past, it was boxing that put Ghana on the global map. So we need to look at all sports, but as a footballer, my priority is ”the Black Stars, the U-20s, U-17s, the Black Queens, and, most importantly, the Ghana Premier League,” he added.
