Kurt Okraku’s third-term ambition is prematurely inappropriate – GFA ExCO member Frederick Acheampong

Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Frederick Acheampong has dismissed reports suggesting that Kurt Okraku is planning to seek a third term in office.

Multiple reports in the local media suggest that the Executive Council is considering amending statutes to allow Mr Okraku to seek a third term.

However, in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Acheampong clarified that the matter has never been discussed at the council level.

“It never came up for discussion; we [Exco] never discussed going for a third term or any extended period,” Acheampong stated.

“When elected to office, the focus should be on improving the mandate you were chosen to fulfil, not contemplating future terms.”

Acheampong further emphasized that leadership performance determines re-election.

“Your performance will decide whether or not you are eligible for a second term. Thinking about a third term prematurely would be inappropriate.”

Kurt Okraku, who took office in 2019 following the tenure of the Normalization Committee after Kwesi Nyantakyi’s exit, has faced mixed reviews during his presidency.

Meanwhile, prominent figures like Kudjoe Fianoo, George Afriyie, and Wilfred Osei Kweku Palmer have publicly opposed the idea of a third term.
