Young Apostles President Anim Addo stands by criticism of referee Maxwell Hanson

Samuel Anim Addo, President of Ghana Premier League side Young Apostles, has defended his public criticism of referee Maxwell Hanson following his controversial officiating in Accra Lions’ matchday 16 loss to Dreams FC.

Hanson’s performance sparked backlash, with the Accra Lions calling for urgent reforms in Ghanaian football and questioning key decisions made during the game.

Anim Addo backed the Lions’ concerns, alleging that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had used Hanson for “dirty works.”

His remarks led to misconduct charges by the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee. However, Anim Addo maintained that it was necessary to voice his concerns.

“I know a lot of people will say that why did I come out? But If Accra Lions have come out and have spoken about this same man [Maxwell Hanson] and I don’t come out to support them then I’m being a coward,” he stated on Joy News’ Prime Sports.

Young Apostles, distancing themselves from their co-owner’s comments, issued a statement disassociating the club from Anim Addo’s remarks.

In response, Anim Addo urged football fans and stakeholders to disregard the club’s position, reiterating his stance on the issue.
