Ghana forward Mohammed Kudus missed out on the FIFA Puskás Award on Tuesday, with Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho claiming the top prize for his spectacular overhead kick.
Garnacho’s stunning strike edged out Kudus’ brilliant solo goal, a Messi-esque effort for West Ham United against Freiburg in the Europa League last season.
Kudus, who was part of the shortlist for the prestigious award, saw his dazzling display recognised on the global stage but fell short as the winner was announced during the FIFA ceremony in Doha.
The Ghanaian star’s nominated goal saw him embark on an impressive solo run from his half before calmly slotting the ball home, helping West Ham secure victory.
It has been a notable week for Kudus, who was also named in CAF’s Men’s Best XI on Monday in Marrakech. Despite West Ham’s struggles this season, Kudus’ brilliance from the previous campaign continues to keep him in the spotlight.
Kudus netted 14 goals in his debut season for the Hammers but has managed just two goals so far this term.
