Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu endured a difficult night on his return to England after committing a blunder in AS Monaco’s heavy defeat to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League.
The former Southampton centre-back’s back pass to goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki was intercepted by Kai Harvetz as Bukayo Saka smashed home with 12 minutes remaining.
The England winger had opened the scoring for the Gunners in the first half after meeting a fine cross from Gabriel Jesus.
Monaco improved in the second half as they chased an equaliser, creating decent chances while defending resolutely.
However, the game was put beyond them after Arsenal capitalised on Salisu’s mistake to double their advantage in the 78th minute.
Ten minutes later, Kai Harvetz completed victory for the hosts as the English giants made it back-to-back wins in the European competition.
Salisu has been in fine form for the French outfit this season after overcoming a torrid first year, who was marred by injuries.
Despite his mistake, he lasted the entire duration and remains a key figure at the State Louis.
