Former Black Stars head coach James Kwesi Appiah has expressed openness to a potential return to the national team, despite currently being under contract with Sudan.
Appiah, 64, who previously coached Ghana’s senior football team from 2012 to 2014 and again from 2017 to 2020, has not ruled out a third stint with the Black Stars.
With the team’s recent struggles, his name has surfaced as a possible candidate to replace Otto Addo, should the Ghana Football Association (GFA) seek a change in leadership.
When asked by Asempa FM about returning as Black Stars coach, Appiah said, “You have to be professional. Whether you would do it or not, you have to keep it in mind because you never know what will happen.
“At the moment, I have a contract with Sudan, and I am working with them. As a professional, you don’t jump to conclusions because you never know what the future holds.”
After his time with the Black Stars, Appiah worked at Kenpong Football Academy before taking on the role of head coach for Sudan.
Under his leadership, Sudan successfully qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, defeating Ghana in the process.
