Benedict Agyei, a 14-year-old student from Asanteman Senior High School, made history by officiating the final of the Ashanti Region Inter-School Championship on December 5, 2024.
Agyei became the youngest referee to handle the tournament’s final, overseeing the clash between Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) and Simms Senior High School (SIMMS) at the Baba Yara Stadium. The intense match ended 2-2 after extra time, with OKESS triumphing on penalties to claim the championship.
A second-year business student, Agyei is a standout product of the Ghana Football Association’s ‘Catch Them Young Referee Project.’ This initiative aims to identify and develop young talents passionate about pursuing professional refereeing.
His exceptional performance in the high-stakes final has drawn widespread praise for his composure, fairness, and professionalism, showcasing the success of the GFA’s innovative program.
