Sunday Stars Crowned Champions in 2023-24 Old Fadama Play Cards Tournament

The 3rd edition of the Old Fadama Play Cards Association tournament came to a thrilling conclusion, with Sunday Stars emerging as the champions of the 2023-24 season.

The team claimed the coveted gold medal, along with a trophy and an undisclosed cash prize. Home Stars and Home Base secured second and third places, winning silver and bronze medals, each accompanied by cash prizes.

The grand event was attended by notable dignitaries, including local chiefs, the Chief of Staff for Old Fadama, and the aspiring parliamentary candidate for Odododiodio, Ashie Kotey, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr. Kotey addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of peace in the community, particularly as the country prepares for upcoming elections. He encouraged the youth to maintain calm and unity before, during, and after the electoral process. Recognizing Excellence: Top Performers Awarded Medals

The tournament highlighted individual talent, with Akwesi Annor of Calling City being awarded a gold medal for finishing as the top scorer. Prosper Eklu and Benjamin took home silver and bronze, respectively. Both male and female officials were recognized for their discipline and performance throughout the season, with medals awarded to those who excelled. Additionally, several players were honored for their standout contributions during the tournament.

Top Four Teams Qualify for Playoffs

Sunday Stars, Home Stars, Home Base, and Zingbe Stars have qualified for the top four playoffs, which are set to take place before the league kicks off again next year.

Muazu Yussif, the Chairman of the Old Fadama Play Cards Association, expressed his satisfaction with the tournament’s success. He noted that since the league began, there has been a significant reduction in conflicts within the Odododiodio constituency, which was one of the key goals of the association.

“We’ve seen a positive shift in the community, and this tournament has played a major role in fostering peace and unity,” Yussif remarked.
