AC Milan legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic has told Christian Pulisic and his team-mates how they can ‘make history’ with the Rossoneri this season.
Ibrahimovic knows a thing or two about winning trophies after landing major honours with clubs across Europe during his illustrious playing career. The Swede is now back in Italy at AC Milan as a senior adviser and has offered some words of advice to the current squad, with the team down in seventh place in the Serie A table ahead of 125th anniversary celebrations in December.
Consistency has been an issue for Milan this season at home and abroad. The Rossoneri enjoyed a 3-1 win over Real Madrid at the Santaigo Bernabeu in the Champions League but followed that up with a 3-3 draw against struggling Cagliari in Serie A. Ibrahimovic says the team lack balance and knows Paulo Fonseca’s side must improve if silverware is to be captured this season.
Ibrahimovic told the Champions League Magazine: “Milan is a constant work in progress. We work to ensure balance and stability. We can do better, but we are growing and that is what we want to continue to do.
What needs to be improved? Balance. There have been results in several games that should not have happened. It is both a mental and playing balance that we are developing given that this has changed.
Could something happen on the transfer window? Everyone knows everything, everyone has advice and everyone is an expert. The transfer window is worked on daily, we have a scouting system with which we look at what may be necessary both for the first team and for Milano Futuro. “For the moment we are not thinking about January, let’s see what happens in these last two months.
“We talk to them a lot. Personally, I talk to them a lot, I have daily contact. It is part of my role to be close to them, to help them, to advise them. There are different dynamics in different situations and that is part of my path. The ambition is to make history. Making history means winning trophies and Milan has historically won many trophies, so it is something that continues.
Obviously, we are aiming for that, but it is a work in progress. Many things have to go well and you have to trust the process, because you work differently and in different conditions.”
