Manchester United are plotting a shock move for Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku as the Frenchman considers his future at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues signed Nkunku from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 for £52 million ($67m) in what was seen as a statement signing at the time. However, multiple injuries limited his game time last season and in the 2024-25 campaign, new manager Enzo Maresca has preferred Nicolas Jackson as Chelsea’s first-choice striker.
The French forward has started in just one Premier League game this season and has clocked 154 minutes on the pitch. While he remains the club’s highest goalscorer this season with 10 strikes to his name, most of them came in the Europa Conference League and Carabao Cup.
Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reported last week that the 26-year-old could consider exiting Stamford Bridge in the near future, although a January exit looks improbable.
Now L’Equipe reports that Manchester United are plotting a move to sign the France international in the upcoming window as they look to bolster their squad in the new Ruben Amorim era.
The Red Devils have been linked with a number of players as they are reportedly planning to raid Amorim’s previous club Sporting CP in order to strengthen their squad, especially in the attack.
The Portuguese coach is expected to travel to Manchester on Monday and formally take charge of the team. His first match as United boss will be after the international break on November 24 as they take on Ipswich Town in a league clash.
