Kylian Mbappe is progressing despite slow start at Real Madrid – Carlo Ancelotti

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has downplayed Kylian Mbappe’s slow start and insists the summer signing is “progressing”.

Mbappe finally joined Madrid earlier this summer from Paris Saint-Germain after being linked with Los Blancos for years. Although he scored on his debut in the UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta, he has underwhelmed in Madrid’s opening two La Liga games so far. However, manager Ancelotti says this team will “never have problems” with goals and defended the 25-year-old.

Ancelotti told reporters: “And with Rodrygo, Vinicius [Junior]… we have a lot of resources. We have six goals and the team is not yet at its best. That says a lot. We will never have problems with goals, you can see that.”

He added on Mbappe: “He is progressing. He’s working with humility and he’s doing well. His adaptation is going well.

“His last goal was on August 14. It’s only been two weeks. It’s not a time to worry. Neither us, nor him. He’s eager to score.

Despite being one of the best players in the world, Mbappe may need time to adapt at Madrid. One, he is playing as a number nine, when he had most of his success on the left side of attack. And two, moving to a new team is not always easy. One thing that will help is he has the backing of Ancelotti – who will hope the former Monaco ace can find his scoring form soon.

Mbappe will get a chance to score his first La Liga goal when his Madrid side travel to Las Palmas on Thursday night. So far this season, Los Blancos have picked up four points from a possible six and sit fifth in the table.
