Chelsea have reportedly made a move to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford as they aim to hijack his potential move to Saudi Arabia.
Per Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, Chelsea have made a move to sign Toney from Brentford as they aim to hijack his potential move to Saudi Arabia. Al-Ahli are said to have made an “incredible” offer, but the Blues are hoping to persuade him to remain in the Premier League, having failed to convince Victor Osimhen to leave Napoli.
Chelsea have spent a staggering €260m (£219m/$290m) this summer, and have already secured no fewer than 12 first-team signings. Joao Felix and Pedro Neto both bolster the Blues’ attack but manager Enzo Maresca has said that he wants a new No.9, and Toney has subsequently been identified. While Al-Ahli have made a bid to sign the England international, Chelsea hope that the lure of staying in England may sway matters.
Toney has also been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer before Al-Ahli took the lead in the race to secure his signature. Toney will now have a decision to make. He has not played thus far this season.
Toney will hope to resolve his future before the summer transfer window slams shut on August 30. Chelsea are next in action on Thursday in the second leg of their Europa Conference League play-off against Servette. They lead 2-0 from the first leg.
