‘He’s brilliant’ – Jude Bellingham on Kylian Mbappe after dream debut for Real Madrid in Super Cup win

Kylian Mbappe showed exactly why Real Madrid waited so long for him on his debut, and Jude Bellingham was full of praise for his new team-mate.

Real Madrid started their 2024/25 season just as expected as they beat Atalanta 2-0 in the Super Cup final. Goals from Mbappe and Federico Valverde gave Carlo Ancelotti’s side their fourth trophy of the calendar year. Bellingham has now praised his new team-mate, Mbappe, who joined Los Blancos as a free agent this summer following the expiry of his Paris Saint-Germain contract.

Speaking to reporters after the win, Bellingham was asked about the major signing of Mbappe this summer, to which he responded: “I think it shows the intent and the mentality of the team When straight after you win the biggest prize there is, you want to go add a player like him… It’s the definition of Real Madrid, that kind of signing.

The way he played today is unbelievable, he is amazing to play with and he has been a great teammate so far. We just want to enjoy getting to understand each other’s rhythm, and hopefully, assisting and scoring more goals.

“It’s brilliant playing with him and [Vinicius Jr] but it’s difficult sometimes. You’ve only got two seconds cause they are both gone. I saw him do the feint and I just thought I’d leave him the area and he finishes like he always does. It’s a joy to see up close.

The Englishman was also asked about how he looks to adapt to the new systems that will be employed by Ancelotti following Mbappe’s arrival to the team, to which he aded: “I think the coach trusts me to get a feel for positions. I think when it is necessary I can go higher and when I need to I can help with build-up.

Whatever the coach wants from me, I will do. I don’t know if I am always going to score goals, I don’t know if I am always going to make goals, but hopefully, I will always be involved in helping the team win. That is the most important thing for me.”

The Los Blancos stars will not have much time to celebrate their Super Cup win as Real Madrid will begin their La Liga season with a clash against Mallorca on August 18.
