Promising Ghanaian prospect, Fatawu Ganiwu is currently training with Chelsea’s under-18 and under-21 squads following a trial with the English club.
The talented midfielder, who has previously trialled with clubs such as RC Lens and RB Leipzig, has caught Chelsea’s attention, having been observed by the club for some time.
His recent performance in a friendly match between Chelsea and Sheffield United, which ended 1-1, reportedly impressed the coaching staff.
Ganiwu is expected to participate in additional games with both junior teams before a final decision is made about his future.
At 16 years old, Ganiwu currently plays for AS Koppan in Ghana but gained significant recognition during a tournament with Red Bull Salzburg’s youth team in Brazil, where he helped the Austrian club secure second place at the FAM Cup youth championship.
His trial with Chelsea was arranged by his management agency, Louis Bell, Fa Sport, which also represents Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.
The agency is working to determine the best path forward for Ganiwu, with the fee negotiations still pending.
Ganiwu drew further attention with his standout performances for the Ghana U16 team at the UEFA Youth Championship in Serbia earlier this year, where he was instrumental in the Black Starlets’ victory, defeating Serbia, Spain, and Switzerland.
Chelsea, which has been increasingly scouting talent from African academies, is considering a move for Ganiwu, with co-director of recruitment and talent Joe Shields involved in the process.
If his trial proves successful, Ganiwu may join Chelsea’s partner club, Strasbourg, in France.
