Another Chelsea goodbye! Melanie Leupolz follows Emma Hayes through exit as she completes Real Madrid transfer

Chelsea, on Wednesday, confirmed the departure of midfielder Melanie Leupolz who joins Real Madrid.

The German international, who joined the Blues from Bayern Munich in March 2020, became an integral part of Emma Hayes’ side. The midfielder won multiple trophies with the English giants including four Women’s Super League and three Women’s FA Cup titles. The 30-year-old becomes Las Blancas’ third signing this summer ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The official statement from the club read, “Melanie Leupolz has departed Chelsea after four trophy-laden seasons and completed a move to Spanish club Real Madrid.”

The reigning WSL champions have started to rebuild their squad under new manager Sonia Bompastor. They have already roped in Julia Bartel on a free transfer from Barcelona while Lionesses star Lucy Bronze has been linked with a move to the West London club after leaving the Catalan giants.
