Celebrating Inclusion and Empowerment: Simon Agbotsu Foundation Launches 6th Edition of ‘Love and Laughter / Yes I Can Games

The Simon Agbotsu Foundation for the Young Disabled is thrilled to announce the launch of the 6th edition of their celebrated event, “Love and Laughter/ Yes I Can Paralympic Games.” The official announcement was made at the Foundation’s office at La Palm Wine Junction, underscoring their ongoing commitment to advocating for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities.

Since its inception, the “Love and Laughter / Yes I Can Games” has been a beacon of hope and empowerment for young people with disabilities. This annual event combines the joy of sports with the warmth of a love feast, fostering a more accepting and supportive community. The Foundation’s outreach programs are dedicated to raising awareness and educating the public about disability rights and inclusion.

Mr. Felix Agbotsu, the tireless founder of the Foundation, spoke passionately about the purpose of the program. “Our goal is to create spaces where young people with disabilities can thrive and showcase their abilities. These events are not just about sports; they’re about building friendships, celebrating life, and promoting an inclusive society.”

Mr. Agbotsu further emphasised “It’s about getting the physically challenged person who has no hope at all or who doesn’t think he or she has a career to one day wake up and say, ‘I have got a career in sports,'” stated Mr. Felix Agbotsu, CEO of the foundation, highlighting the main reason for the event.

This year’s “Love and Laughter / Yes I Can Games” will be held on June 22, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium. Attendees can look forward to a day filled with diverse activities such as the para peace walk, para boxing, and para cycling. These events are designed to highlight the athletic talents of the participants and promote physical fitness and community spirit.

Over the past six years, the Simon Agbotsu Foundation has achieved several significant milestones. A standout moment was when their initiatives led Ghana to host its first-ever African Paralympic Games—a historic breakthrough that highlighted the importance of accessibility and inclusion in sports.

The Foundation’s impact extends beyond sports. During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, they provided critical support to the Greater Accra Region. Their relief efforts included distributing essential items such as crutches, foodstuffs, and water to individuals with disabilities, offering much-needed assistance during a difficult period.

The upcoming event at the Accra Sports Stadium is more than just a gathering; it’s a celebration of resilience, ability, and community. Thousands of young people with disabilities, their families, and supporters will come together to build lasting friendships and foster a sense of belonging.

As we look forward to June 22, let’s celebrate not only the athletic achievements of these remarkable individuals but also the spirit of inclusion and empowerment that the Simon Agbotsu Foundation tirelessly promotes.
