Real Tamale United’s assistant coach, Iddi Manza, has disclosed that he did not accompany the team to Dawu for their match against Dreams FC.
The match, which was part of the outstanding week 28 fixtures, saw Dreams FC thrash Real Tamale United with a resounding 8-1 score.
The assistant coach’s absence comes in the wake of a boycott by Real Tamale United players, who have not been paid their salaries for the past six months. The players’ decision to boycott the game against Dreams FC is not an isolated incident. They have previously threatened to boycott matches in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League due to the same issue of unpaid salaries.
Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, Coach Iddi Manza confirmed his absence from the team’s travel to Dawu. “Yes, my name is on the team sheet but I did not go with the team. That’s all I can say for now,” he stated.
Real Tamale United has been dealing with a host of challenges both on and off the pitch, resulting in their relegation from the top flight.
The club’s final game of the season will be against Accra Great Olympics, a match that is now under a cloud of uncertainty given the ongoing salary crisis and the players’ boycott.
