Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo has revealed that Leayea Kingston has not been sacked as the head coach of the Black Starlets.
His remarks come after the former Ghana international revealed that he will resign from his role as the head coach of the U-17 side after his side suffered a 2-1 defeat against Burkina Faso in the semifinals of the ongoing WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship on Saturday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
The defeat means Ghana has failed to secure a place in the final and will not play in the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year.
However, reacting to Kingston’s decision, the country’s football governing body confirmed that the 43-year-old will not be in the dugout for the 3rd and 4th place game against Nigeria on Tuesday.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have not sacked Laryea Kingston. We have asked him to stay aside. We will call him after the tournament and find out about his decision,” Nana Oduro Sarfo told Asempa FM
“He said he would resign so the Management Committee thought putting him there for the Nigeria game wouldn’t be good for the team,” he added.
