Laryea Kingston has opened up about his decision to invest in himself as a football coach.
The former Ghana international made this revelation in his shock decision to resign as head coach of the Black Starlets in the wake of the team’s semifinal loss to Burkina Faso on Saturday.
Ghana lost 2-1 to Burkina Faso at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon. The defeat mean the team has failed to qualify for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament next year.
Speaking to the press, the former Hearts of Oak midfielder said that he had decided to leave his Black Starlets role before the tournament started regardless of the outcome and added that,
“I gave my all as a player for this country but in the end, I wasn’t happy as a player. I have focused more on my coaching career and educated myself well to make sure I come back and change the narrative” he said.
The investment I put in myself is all because I want to change something in Ghana football,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Black Starlets will take on Nigeria in the 3rd and 4th place game on Tuesday with assistant coach, Jaco Narteh expected to take charge of the game.
