Former Ghana national team coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, has taken on a new role as a consultant for the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Reports indicate that the former manager of Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak will be lending his expertise to CAF in an advisory capacity.
While the specifics of his appointment have not been disclosed, it is understood that Akonnor will play a pivotal role in an upcoming gathering of football associations from across the continent.
Akonnor has temporarily left Ghana to finalize the details of his new position. His contract is said to span one year initially, with the possibility of an extension in the future.
This appointment underscores Akonnor’s significant contributions to African football, both as a player and a coach. In his new role, he will draw upon his wealth of experience to help shape the development of youth football in Africa.
In addition to his tenure with the Black Stars, the 50-year-old has a rich coaching background at the club level, having managed teams such as Sekondi Eleven Wise, Dreams FC, and Ashgold.
Prior to his CAF appointment, Akonnor was serving as the technical director of Accra Athletic FC, a Division One club.
Akonnor is expected to return to Ghana on Friday following his engagement with CAF.
