Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has yet to solidify his future ambitions within the local football administration following a setback to his presidential aspirations.
Afriyie’s uncertainty comes after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld the disqualification decision of the Elections Committee, dealing a blow to his hopes of presidency.
In an interview with Graphic Sports, Afriyie emphasized that it was premature to decide his next move, especially with approximately three years until the next Ghana Football Association (GFA) election.
He stressed the importance of focusing on the present and pursuing activities he is passionate about while remaining open to future opportunities.
Asked about the possibility of contesting the GFA presidency again, Afriyie responded, “Nobody knows tomorrow. I have not taken any decision yet, but in life, you just have to focus and do what you want to do, and then when there is time and opportunity to do anything, why not.”
Afriyie’s previous bid for the GFA presidency was derailed during the last election when he was disqualified for allegedly using an ineligible candidate to endorse his form.
Despite appealing the decision, both the Appeals Committee and CAS upheld the ruling, leading Afriyie to accept the outcome and move forward.
“I just gave my opinion, and I said per what the CAS ruling is, I have accepted it, so we move,” Afriyie affirmed.
