Augustine Ahinful calls for support for Otto Addo and the Black Stars technical team.

Former Ghana international, Augustine Ahinful has called for support for Black Stars technical team led by Otto Addo.

Addo was reinstated as the technical head of the senior national team on a 34-month deal with an option of a 24-month deal following the dismissal of Chris Hughton after the team’s poor performance at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann have been named as the first and second assistant coaches with Fatawu Dauda serving as the goalkeepers’ trainer.

In Addo’s first two games, the Black Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat against Nigeria before being held to a 2-2 draw against Uganda

Despite the results, Ahinful has urged Ghanaians to rally behind the coach and his team and emphasised the need for time to build a formidable squad capable of competing at the highest level.

“Those games were just friendly matches,” Ahinful stated in an interview with Graphic Sports.

“We need to give them whatever confidence they need, whatever help that we can give them to succeed,” he added.

The Black Stars will be reassembled for their Matchday 3 and 4 games of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic on June 6 and 10 respectively..
