Liverpool cannot trigger Mohammed Kudus’ release clause, according to a West Ham insider.

Contrary to a report that English Premier League side Liverpool are set to trigger the release clause of Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus, the West Ham United player’s £85 million release clause can’t be triggered according to West Ham writer Sean Whetstone.

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Saanie Daara stated on his X (formerly Twitter) page that Liverpool have activated contacts to trigger Kudus’ release clause.

However, Whetstone has stated that Kudus’s release clause can’t be triggered until July 2025 due to the structure of contract negotiations.

“Release clauses in club contracts only activate after the third transfer window following their signing. The same was true about Lucas Paqueta whose £85 million release clause only becomes active this summer after signing for the Hammers from Lyon in August 2022” Whetstone said to Claret and Hugh.

Since Kudus was signed last season, his release clause becomes eligible to be triggered at the end of the 2024-2025 season.

Ahead of West Ham’s final game of the season, Kudus has seven goals and six assists in 32 league games.
