A Vice President of Ghana Athletics, Charles Osei Assibey, has indicated that the federation is solidly behind Benjamin Azamati even though there are criticisms that he should not be part of the relay team.
Benjamin Azamati didn’t start the season well and it showed in Team Ghana’s performance in Round One of the Men’s 4 x100m Olympic Games qualifiers on May 5 in Bahamas.
In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Osei Assibey says Azamati is a key member of Team Ghana and will continue to compete for the country until Ghana gets a quality replacement in performance and experience.
Azamati is our top sprinter, he is a key component of the team and there’s nothing wrong with Mr. Benjamin Azamati. Yes, the season didn’t start well which is normal, remember the season changed and obviously all our athletes didn’t superbly perform during the African Games .
Now, in the same event that Ghanaians condemned him, he did some magic to ensure Ghana won silver during the Africa games.
Azamati did so well to make sure Ghana qualifies. Until we get a quality replacement as in performance and experience, we are solidly behind him.
He will continue to be a component of this team because, his wealth of experience we cannot get on the market.
t’s just a matter of time and Azamati will come good, yes we admit Ghanaians are not happy but Azamati will come good and we are solidly behind him.
Ghana’s Men’s 4 x 100 Metre Relay Team booked its place in the 2024 Olympic Games after winning Heat 2 at the World Relays in Bahamas.
Team Ghana finished the race ahead of Nigeria and Dominican Republic with a time of 38.29 which is Ghana’s best thus far this season.
At the 2023 African Games, the Ghanaian quartet of Joseph Paul Amoah, Ibrahim Fuseini, Isaac Botsio, and Benjamin Azamati won silver.
