‘This has to stop’ – Casemiro urged to quit Man Utd

Casemiro has been advised to quit top-level football after he and his Manchester United team-mates were humiliated by Crystal Palace

The multiple Champions League winner has had a dismal season but he plummeted new depths as United were hammered 4-0 by Palace. He was partly culpable for three of Palace’s goals and embarrassed himself further when he was dispossessed by Daniel Munoz in the build up to Michael Olise firing in the fourth strike of the night.

“I think Casemiro should know himself tonight as an experienced player that he should only have three games left at a top level and then say I’m gonna go to the MLS or Saudi,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“His agent or the team around him need to tell him. We’re watching one of the greats of the modern time…but I always remember something when I retired, a saying I’ll always remember: ‘Leave the football before the football leaves you’. The football’s left him at this top level. He needs to call it a day at this level of football and move.”

Casemiro won five Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles with Real Madrid and joined United for a total fee of £70 million ($87m) in 2022 on a four-year contract. He still has two years left and is reported to be United’s highest-paid player. But Carragher urged him to end his contract early.

“He’s made a right few quid, good luck to him. They pay him off, they do some sort of deal. He should not be putting himself through this,” added the former Liverpool defender. “He is too good to be putting in a performance like that and being laughed at by Crystal Palace, he’s not playing Man City he’s not playing Real Madrid, with all respect to Crystal Palace. A man of that level should not be going through what he’s going through now, he needs to call it a day.”

United have now lost a club record 13 games in a Premier League season. Their two previous worst campaigns in terms of losses were 2013-14, under David Moyes and interim coach Ryan Giggs, and 2021-22, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick. The loss by Palace, who did the double over the Red Devils for the first time, was also United’s heaviest defeat of the season.

The Red Devils have six days to pick themselves back up ahead of their next game against title contenders Arsenal on Sunday. United have three games left to try and salvage some pride from this horrendous season as they are currently sitting eighth in the table and are on course for their worst ever finish in the Premier League. Their worst previous finish was when they ended the 2013-14 season in seventh place.
