Zinedine Zidane is reportedly poised to become the next manager of Bayern Munich, with a deal for the Frenchman said to be “practically done”.
World Cup winner Zidane has been out of work since bringing a second spell as Real Madrid manager to a close in 2021.
He has been linked with various positions around the world since then – including Premier League and Ligue 1 roles – while also being mooted as a successor to Didier Deschamps with the France national team.
No deal has been done, with Zidane prepared to wait for the right opportunity to present itself. The 51-year-old would now appear to be ready for a return to the dugout, with Bundesliga giants capturing his imagination.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Zidane is “one step away” from becoming Bayern’s new boss.
Thomas Tuchel has already announced that he will be stepping down at the end of the season – potentially with a Champions League win under his belt after guiding Harry Kane and Co through to the semi-finals of that competition.
There is work to be done at the Allianz Arena, with Bayer Leverkusen claiming domestic title honours in 2023-24, and Zidane is ready for that challenge.
No paperwork has been signed as yet, but an agreement is believed to be close and discussions have been held regarding possible transfer targets – with Zidane said to have talked up the need for defensive reinforcements.
