Boxing: Still gathering facts on the controversial judgment on Bastie Samir- GBA Communications Director

Communications Director of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mohammed Amin Lamptey, has assured stakeholders that the GBA will handle matters related to the controversial technical draw decision on the Bastie Samir-Rasheed Idowu fight.

The battle took place this past weekend in Kawukudi and saw Ghanaian boxer Bastie knocked out in the second round, but the event, which was contested for the vacant UBO African Light Heavyweight crown, was scored a technical draw despite the referee waving the fight off when Samir struck the ground.

Amin Lamptey, a veteran boxing experts, lambasted the judgment and labeled it as illogical, adding that the Ghana Boxing Authority would investigate the problem.

“People are saying a lot of things so we are listening, we are still gathering all the information. The obvious point is that the decision that the ring announcer pronounced was not the right decision. The only thing that the GBA will do is that to make sure we are going to stamp our authority and make sure it will never be repeated.”

Samir rose to prominence in Ghana boxing circles after beating Braimah “Bukoum Banku” Kamoko via a technical knockout in the seventh round in 2017.
