I’ll separate Youth and Sports Ministry when re-elected president – John Mahama

Former President John Mahama has pledged to restructure the Youth and Sports Ministry if he secures re-election in the upcoming December polls.

Currently, the Ministry combines both Youth and Sports under one umbrella, with the National Sports Authority and the National Youth Authorities as its primary agencies.

However, a significant portion of the Ministry’s resources is reportedly allocated towards the salaries and compensations of the Sports Ministry.

During the launch of his party’s youth wing, the NDC flagbearer emphasized the need for a change in the Ministry’s operational structure.

“We are going to separate Youth and Sports. Over the years, the focus has been predominantly on sports, particularly on the Black Stars, neglecting other sporting events.”

Mahama further outlined his plan to establish a dedicated service for Youth Development.

In a recent parliamentary address, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif disclosed that Ghana had exceeded $3 million in expenses during the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire within a span of 10 days.

This amount surpassed Ghana’s entire sports budget for 2023, which stood at $29,878,677.23.

Former President John Mahama is vying for re-election under the NDC banner in the December 2024 elections.
