2023 African Games: Fasting influenced some substitutions against Senegal – Black Satellites coach Desmond Ofei

Desmond Ofei, the head coach of Ghana’s U20 male national team, the Black Satellites has revealed that some of his substitutions against Senegal in their 2023 African Games semifinal on Tuesday night.

Ofei took off players like Abdul Sulemana, the younger brother of Black Stars winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, who fasted throughout the day and was losing energy toward the end of the game.

Substitute Michael Ephson who replaced Sulemana scored the only goal of the game to get Ghana into the final few minutes after coming on.

Speaking after the game, Ofei elaborated on his decision to make some particular changes.

‘’Some of the boys are fasting so it’s tiring. So at the right time we decided to switch to a back four and solidify the midfield more with two holding mid-fielders and play with double wingers and it helped. That’s how Jerry managed to get the assist to our striker Ephson’’ he said.

Ghana will face Uganda in the final on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
