He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports after featuring in South Africa’s two straight sets win over Sierra Leone at the 13th African Games Men’s Beach Volleyball semifinals at the Laboma Beach.
South Africa and Morocco were considered the top contenders for the title and both teams have progressed to the final with Morocco beating Botswana by two straight sets in the other semifinal game.
Speaking after the win, Williams acknowledged that as a top contender, South Africa is expected to win the gold medal but he added that the team is taking a steady approach.
“We take every match as it comes, every point as it comes…We take every point as it comes so I don’t think we feel any pressure to try to win gold. Of course we want to win gold but there is no pressure.”
