Kumasi “SaveGhanaFootball” Demo on Friday, February 23 called off

According to Citi Sports the Kumasi leg of the “SaveGhanaFootball” Demonstration has been called off by conveners of the protest.

This development was communicated via an official statement released in the lead up to the scheduled date of the demonstration on Friday, February 23 in Ghana’s Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.

Calling off the demonstration according to the statement, comes after “a positive round of talks between the group and parliament of Ghana as well as the relevant bodies whose duty we believe it is to revive the passion of the nation, football” the statement read and added that

“Leadership has taken the decision to put the Kumasi demonstration and all the subsequent ones on hold to meet the appropriate bodies to discuss the way forward before deciding on the next move.”

The Kumasi leg of the demonstration was planned to continue calls for changes to made to improve football in Ghana in the face of poor results by Ghana’s national football teams particularly results connected to the National Men’s Football Team-the Black Stars.

The SaveGhanaFootball Demo was held on February 14 in Accra and attracted thousands of football enthusiasts.

A petition listing 15 items conveners want changed was presented to parliamentarians who represented Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
