We had to substitute Majeed Ashmieru – Chris Hughton

Ghana coach, Chris Hughton has described midfielder Majeed Ashimeru’s substitution as one the technical team “had to make”.

The Anderlecht midfielder was replaced by Baba Iddrisu in the 62nd minute in the second Group B game against Egypt on Thursday night.

The decision was criticized by many fans but the former Premier League manager explained the decision behind the substitution.

“A substitution that we had to make and we will assess him in the morning” Hughton said after the game.

Ghana took the lead twice with Mohammed Kudus scoring the brace but Ghana conceded seven minutes later en route to the draw with Omar Marmoush and Mostaph Mohamed scoring for the record champions.

The Black Stars play Mozambique next on Monday, January 22 in a must-final group game at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium with kick-off scheduled at 20:00GMT.
